Juglans

Walnuts are among the oldest foods known to man, dating as far back as 7000 BC. Its high protein and oil content make its fruit indispensable for human nutrition so much so that the walnut is classified as a strategic species for human nutrition that it is included in the corresponding FAO list. " The common walnut plant belongs to the juglandaceae family. It is a plant native to Central and East Asian areas, the Balkans and Italy.
Active ingredients of pharmaceutical interest are tannins, naphthoquinones, flavonoids, VIT-C, mucilage, calcium, potassium. It manifests antibacterial, antioxidant, and antiviral activities. Ethanolic extracts of Juglans regia leaves have been shown to be potent anti-inflammatory without giving gastric side effects. Juglans regia leaves have been used mainly in Italy and in other traditional medicines around the world as an antimicrobial, anthelmintic, astringent, keratolytic, anti-diarrheal, hypoglycemic, depurative, tonic, carminative, and for the treatment of sinusitis, cold, and stomach ache.
